So before going out to ATW3 on Saturday I was messing around with Facebook's advertising functionality. Some pretty cool stuff there. You can upload an image, write a headline and text, include a URL, set a daily budget and presto -- you have your own ad running across Facebook users in the US or in specific states or even to just everyone using Facebook across the planet. You can also just run the ad to certain age groups or other forms of targeting.
Some ads are less well targeted than others.
While screwing around with this at about the same time I also created what was pretty much the best Facebook Group ever made. I am now friends with eight versions of myself. One Charles Ballard apparently worked on a US aircraft carrier. Another just IM'd me an hour ago with "Yo hoss! Where the bitchez at?!" Another just IM'd to say he also named his son Charlie and that he'd be joining the group soon. We're going to have to have a meetup or something. Maybe a conference to plan out the future course of Charlie Ballards.
Anyway, to test out Facebook's ad network today I set an ad live promoting the group across the US and Europe with a daily budget limit of $5 per day. Since you can set to be charged either per thousand ad impressions or only when the ad gets clicked, I just set it so I'd only be charged per click.
If you see this and want to cost me $0.50, click it.
I'm forcasting that the budget will get burned through with few to zero clicks, but potentially result in a massive lift in personal brand awareness.
I really need a hobby.
