Few weeks ago someone suggested renting a few cars and driving down to Valencia, Spain on Saturday, staying overnight and coming back on Sunday. So that's what we did.
Word got out and by the end of last week the number of classmates interested had sprawled to 17. I booked seven rooms for us at a decent hotel in Valencia, Isabel bought tickets for the few of us preferring the train, a rental car and van were reserved, and we're good to go.
Saturday morning's a struggle due to being out late for the ESADE/IESE Halloween party the night before but I manage to make it to the station by 16:00. The girls and I take the three and a half hour ride south, get into the city and wander across Valencia eating hazelnuts and climbing castles, and finally get ourselves checked in.
We end up meeting the twelve others who'd driven down in the car and van in the hotel lobby around 20:00 and together head back downtown in five taxis to a paella place for dinner the hotel concierge had recommended. Casa Roberto. Which was freaking fantastic. Seventeen of us, seven bottles of wine, a bottle of champage, huge pans of paella, platters of cold meat and grilled vegetables, multiple desserts. So damn good.
After dinner headed out to a few local bars then later a club which we'd been put on the list for. Which didn't have us on the list. We left there and wandered for awhile before landing on an Irish bar which we quickly took over and had a blast with. Still can't deal with how cheap good beer is here. Late, great night.
Sunday wandered the city together, lost and poring over maps while constantly losing and finding each other everywhere again. Weather couldn't have been better. Note to self: multiple Irish coffees make dealing large groups so much more tolerable.
Ended up on the 19:30 train back to Barcelona exhausted but happy, surprised at the train station by Archana, who'd been left behind by the van by accident so got added to our group. Great weekend but felt good to get home.
Man. It's now Wednesday and I'm still so damn tired. So much to get done this weekend. No more procrastinating. Can't believe there's only six weeks left.
