In BusinessWeek's article on AOL's change to an ad-revenue-only model here, analyst Alan Gould is quoted as saying no market can sustain 30% annual growth, not even internet advertising. Of course he's right, but can the market sustain that kind of growth for the next, say, 5 years?
Given how much media has yet to move online it seems that Alan might be being a little pessimistic. Music has almost made itself a nice home on the internet, but all television, all movies, and all games have barely even begun to pack their bags, much less make the move and get comfortable in their new digs.
